Update: Three teenagers arrested following Newhaven assault
Three teenagers have been arrested following an incident in Newhaven High Street on Monday evening (24 August) around 8pm, during which it was reported a woman was assaulted and a dog was kicked.
A 16-year-old boy from Hassocks and a 17-year-old girl from Brighton were both arrested on suspicion of common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and theft from a shop. Both have been bailed while enquiries continue.
A 15-year-old girl from Brighton has also been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She remains in custody at this time.
Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Inspector John Adams said: “We have taken swift action following this incident and three people have been arrested. Our enquiries are continuing as we work to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“We understand the video circulating on social media may have been concerning for those who have seen it, and we would still ask anyone with information or relevant footage to contact us.”
Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1438 of 24/08.

ASB driving in Newhaven
Following reports from local residents around anti-social driving and nuisance bikes, officers from your Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out additional proactive patrols in the last few weeks to address community concerns.
Action this week includes late-night patrols (26 August), when officers on patrol were alerted to a motorcycle being ridden dangerously, not only was the motorcycle carrying two people, but it also had no lights, no registration plates displayed, and neither rider was wearing a helmet.
Officers caught up with the motorcycle, and both riders made off on foot, following a foot chase, both individuals were located, and the motorcycle was seized.
We hope that these types of result demonstrate our continued commitment to tackling nuisance bikes and anti-social behaviour across the district, targeted patrols will continue in areas where concerns have been reported, and action will be taken where offences are identified.
